Arts Magnet Information
At L. W. Conder Elementary Arts Integration Magnet School, we believe an arts integrated education enriches, motivates, and broadens student learning. Parental and community involvement is an integral part of the education process. We must equip students with basic skills such as problem solving and higher order thinking skills, to enable them to reach their potential as lifelong learners. We believe in preparing students to become responsible citizens in a global society who have respect and understanding for differences among people from various cultural backgrounds.
L.W. Conder Elementary Arts Integrated Magnet School is a place where all students will excel academically, emotionally, and socially through arts integration. Our school is a place where faculty and staff encourage students to be critical thinkers, creative, collaborative, and to communicate effectively. Students will be prepared for success in our ever-changing, global world. The arts play a vital role in the learning opportunities we provide our students in kindergarten through fifth grades. We believe that opportunities to learn in and through the arts give our students unique exposure to engage in and learn the content.
We work with parents and the community to ensure that high quality arts integration and learning opportunities occur throughout the school year for all students. Most notably, parents and community members are invited to participate in our arts steering committee. This group meets at least four times per year to identify strengths and areas for improvement in our arts integration program.
Our magnet program provides our students with rich, meaningful arts integrated lessons planned and implemented through collaborations between the arts and homeroom teachers at least quarterly. We also provide our students with opportunities to learn from professional artists around the state, through annual artist residencies that tie directly to their learning targets. Additionally, all of our students in grades three through five participate weekly in specialized arts clubs of their choice. Many students also choose to audition for our extra-curricular arts performance groups.
